WORLD GOLF HALL OF
FAMER ANNIKA SORENSTAM TO SPEAK AT 35th JUNIOR PGA CHAMPIONSHIP
PALM BEACH GARDENS,
Fla. -- The PGA of America and
Sycamore Hills Golf Club have announced that World Golf Hall of Fame member Annika Sorenstam will speak to participants competing in
the 35th Junior PGA Championship.
Annika will address many of the
top junior golfers in the country at the Championship Welcome Dinner, Aug. 1 at
7:30 p.m., at Parkview Field in Fort
Wayne, Ind.
“I am very excited to attend the 35th Junior PGA
Championship,” said Annika. “Many of those competing
this year will help carry this great game in the future and I am looking
forward to getting a chance to help them pursue their dreams in both golf and
life.”
Annika, regarded as one the best
female golfers of all-time, rewrote the LPGA and Ladies European Tour record
books, won countless awards and changed the way women’s golf was played,
viewed, and covered. During her 15-year career, she amassed 89 worldwide
professional victories, including 72 LPGA wins, ten of which are Major
Championships.
She stepped-away from competitive golf at the end of the
2008 professional golf season.
In 2007, Annika created the ANNIKA
Foundation as a way to teach children the importance of living a healthy,
active lifestyle through fitness and nutrition, and offer aspiring junior
golfers opportunities to pursue their dreams.
The 35th Junior PGA Championship will be contested Aug. 2-5
at Sycamore Hills Golf Club in Fort
Wayne, Ind.
One of golf’s major championships for juniors, the Junior
PGA Championship is where the best in the world get their start.
The PGA of America founded the Junior PGA Championship 35
years ago to attract the finest junior golfers. Since 1976, more than 300,000
juniors have competed on the PGA Section level, in the PGA Junior Series and in
select national tournaments to earn a berth in the Championship.
