PGA Junior Series
Arrives In New England
Stow, Mass., - The 2010 PGA
Junior Series is back in New England for the
seventh stop of the 2010 summer. This
week the 54-hole tournament is being played at the North Course at Stow Acres
Country Club in Stow, Mass.
The first round will start Monday July 12 and will feature
over 90 juniors from nine different states as well as Italy and Argentina.
The field is broken down into four divisions, two girls and
two boys, with ages ranging from 13-18. The Boys’ 16-18 and overall girl
winner will each earn a spot in the 35th Junior PGA Championship
held later this summer at Sycamore Hills Golf Club Aug. 2-5 in Fort Wayne, Ind.
This summer will also feature points awarded to the top-10
finishers who are American citizens at the nine PGA Junior Series events.
These points help players to qualify for the 7th Junior Ryder
Cup held in late September in Gleneagles,
Scotland.
The U.S. Junior Ryder Cup team will be comprised of six boys and six
girls who are American citizens and members of the high school graduating
class of 2011, or younger.
The golf course is going to be a great challenge for all the
players. With numerous tight fairways
and quick greens, players will need to have all facets of their game on if they
hope to win this week.
PGA Junior Series veteran Connor Garrity
of Hollidaysburg, Pa., looks to win in the
Boys’ 16-18 Division but will be up against some hard competition from the New England area.
The 2009 PGA Junior Series Player of the Year in the Boys’
13-15 Division Colton Wiggins of Indiana, Pa., is in the field
this week and hopes for a better finish than earlier this summer when the
series was in Lexington, Ky.
The Girls’ 16-18 Division is highlighted by Brooke Beegle of Fortville, Ind., who came in fifth place earlier this summer at the
PGA Junior Series event in Colorado
Springs, Colo. She hopes that her experience on the PGA
Junior Series will help her this week earn a victory.
Stow Acres Country Club hosted the 70th US
Amateur Public Links Championship in 1995 as well as numerous PGA Open
Qualifiers for the Deutsche Bank PGA Tour Event.
The PGA Junior Series is one of the premier junior circuit in the country hosting tournaments across the
country for the entire summer. It features
excellent junior golfers at top golf facilities every week. The mission of the PGA Junior Series is to
promote the enjoyment of golf by junior golfers through affordable and
competitive playing opportunities in professionally supervised events organized
by the PGA of America and supported by PGA Professionals. In its fifteenth year it has conducted 154
