PGA Junior Series Up
For Grabs At Eisenhower
Colorado Springs,
Colo. – The second round of the
2010 PGA Junior Series event at Eisenhower Golf Club returned to normalcy on
Wednesday. After working around the
clock, the 11th hole on the Blue Course, which was closed on Tuesday
due to vandalism over night, was re-opened for the players to play.
The field of 80 juniors from 12 different states played the
second round at the standard par 72 after playing round one at a par 70.
The Boys’ 16-18 race got a lot
tighter after round two. Round one
leader Bobby Gojuangco of San Diego, Calif.,
saw his five stroke lead cut to only one stroke. Gojuangco shot a
3-over-par 75 for a two day total of 1-under-par 141.
Cameron Harrell of Colorado
Springs, Colo., is in
second place after shooting his second consecutive 71 for a two day total of
even-par 142. Harrell
who plays Eisenhower Golf Club a lot, hopes that his local knowledge will help him
heading into the final round.
Gojuangco struggled on the greens
today with a total of 5 three-putts that he hopes to eliminate tomorrow.
Shelby Phillips of Gilbert,
Ariz. shot a 2-over-par 74 to
take a five stroke lead into the final round of the tournament. She played solid all day and played within
her own game for a two day total of 146.
“I am happy to give myself a chance to win tomorrow,” said
Phillips who was the 2009 PGA Junior Series Player of the Year. “All you can ask going into the final round
is a chance to win the tournament and I have done that over the first two
days.”
Brooke Beegle of Fortville,
Ind., and Kathleen Gallagher of Savannah, Mo.,
are tied for second with a two day total of 151.
Benjamin Moore of Englewood,
Colo., took hold of the lead in
the Boys’ 13-15 Division after shooting a 5-over-par 77 for a two day total of
151. He has a one stroke advantage over
Clayton Crawford of Aspen, Colo.
The scoring average for this division went up by almost
three strokes in round two. It will be
very interesting to watch this division tomorrow because for the 2010 PGA
Junior Series summer so far, the winner in the Boys’ 13-15 Division has come
from behind in all but one event to win.
And in the last division, Jennifer Kemtpon
of Littleton, Colo., leads the Girls’ 13-15. She has a one stroke advantage over Caitlin
Farris of Oklahoma City, Okla., after shooting an 80 today for a two
day total of 159.
Players need to watch for Jordan Chael
of Overland Park, Kan., who is seven back as she has the
ability to go low and come from behind to win.
She was the winner last week in St.
Louis, Mo., at the
PGA Junior Series event at Fox Run Golf Club.
Two exemptions will be up for grabs tomorrow during the
final round of the 2010 PGA Junior Series event at Eisenhower Golf Club. The overall Girls’ winner and the Boys’ 16-18
Division winner will both earn a spot to play in the
35th Junior PGA Championship later this summer at Sycamore Hills
Country Club in Fort Wayne,
Ind., Aug. 2-5.
As the golf course continues to get firmer with more wind
and drier conditions, players who want to win will need to putt extremely well
during the final round. All divisions will be playing in the morning at the
Eisenhower Golf Club Blue Course on the campus of the US Air Force Academy.
