All Day-Two Leaders
Able To Win PGA Junior Series Event
Lexington, Ky.
– The final round at Kearney Hill Golf Links was highlighted by four winners
that cruised to victory in each of their respective divisions to win the PGA
Junior Series event in Lexington,
Ky. Favorite this week was Justin Thomas of Goshen, Ky.,
in the Boys’ 16-18 Division and he did not disappoint.
His final round score of 1-under-par was good enough for a
ten stroke victory over Nicholas Scott of Union,
Ohio.
Thomas was steady all day with hitting a majority of the
fairways and greens. He earns an
exemption into the 35th Junior PGA Championship in Fort Wayne, Ind.,
Aug 2-5.
Kendall Martindale of Jefferson
City, Tenn.,
accomplished her own personal goal of shooting under par this week which was
good enough for a victory in the Girls’ 16-18 Division.
Martindale shot a 2-under-par 70 for a three day total of
5-under-par 211. She won her Division by
ten strokes over Jesse Jordan of Urbana,
Ohio.
This is her second consecutive victory at the PGA Junior
Series event at Kearney Hill Golf Links.
She had three solid birdies on the day with only one bogey.
Martindale earned herself an exemption into the 35th
Junior PGA Championship in Fort Wayne,
Ind., Aug. 2-5. She hopes to play well at the Championship considering
it is one of her favorite courses.
All eyes were on the final pairing in the Boys’ 13-15
Division. Jake McBride of Hartville, Ohio
took home first place after shooting a 1-under-par 71 for a three day total of
6-under-par 210. He led wire-to-wire to
win his first PGA Junior Series event.
McBride was able to cruise to victory with a seven stroke
win.
Cooper Musselman of Louisville, Ky., came in
second place with a three day total of 1-over-par 217 while Stephen Stallings,
Jr. also of Louisville, Ky., came in third with a three day total of
2-over-par 218.
In the Girls’ 13-15 Division, Sophia Schubert played three
solid rounds of golf to earn herself her first PGA Junior Series victory. She shot a 4-over-par 76 for a three day
total of 9-over-par 225.
She cruised to victory with an eight stroke win. Harley Dubsky of Valparaiso, Ind., and Sarah Kolodzik of Bellbrook, Ohio
tied for second with a three day total of 233.
The PGA Junior Series heads to ArborLinks
in Nebraska City, Neb., for a two day tournament starting
Monday June 14th. That will
be the third stop of nine events this summer that features top junior golfers
from around the country.
