Highlight PGA Junior Series at Yahara Hills
Madison,
Wis., - The 2010 PGA Junior
Series has arrived at its ninth and final stop of the summer. The three day tournament that features over
90 juniors from 15 different states is set to begin on Saturday July 24th
at Yahara Hills Golf Course in Madison, Wis. This is the second time in its 15 year
history that the PGA Junior Series has held a tournament at Yahara
Hills.
The field is broken down into four divisions, two girls and
two boys, with ages ranging from 13-18. The Boys’ 16-18 and overall girl
winner will each earn a spot in the 35th Junior PGA Championship
held later this summer at Sycamore Hills Golf Club Aug. 2-5 in Fort Wayne, Ind.
This week’s field is the first time all summer that each of
the four divisions has had a past PGA Junior Series winner. The Boys’ 16-18 Division is highlighted by
Colton Buege of Rogers, Minn., who won an event in Nebraska last
summer. His biggest competition this
week will be his younger brother McCabe Buege and the
numerous Wisconsin players that are all familiar
with this venue.
In the Girls’ 16-18 Division, Shelby Martinek
of Tempe, Ariz.,
who won earlier this summer in Edmond,
Okla., has a tough field to
contend with to win her second event of the summer. She will need to deal with the likes of Laura
Kraft of Jamestown, N.D.,
Lauren English of Bloomington,
Ill., and Lisbeth
Brooks of Waunakee, Wis., all of which have either won a PGA Junior Series
event or placed in the top-3.
Casey Danielson of Osceola, Wis., leads the Girls’ 13-15 Division and Christian
Seaton of Mt. Carmel, Ill., leads the Boys’ 13-15 Division. Both players have also won out on the
Series.
This week the players will be playing a combination of both
the West and East Course at Yahara Hills. The course will be a par-71 and with wet
conditions, the course will be playing extremely long for the players. Players will need to keep it in the fairway
with the thick and wet rough.
This summer will also feature points awarded to the top-10
finishers who are American citizens at the nine PGA Junior Series events.
These points help players to qualify for the 7th Junior Ryder
Cup held in late September in Gleneagles,
Scotland.
The U.S. Junior Ryder Cup team will be comprised of six boys and six
girls who are American citizens and members of the high school graduating
class of 2011, or younger.
