Players Take
Advantage Of Conditions At PGA Junior Series
Madison, Wis., - The final event of the 2010 PGA Junior
Series finally started today after heavy rain made the golf course unplayable
yesterday. The 54-hole stroke play
competition, that features over 90 juniors from 15 different states, is taking
place at Yahara Hills Golf Course in Madison, Wis. The players are playing a par-71 golf course
that is a combination of the two 18-hole golf courses that Yahara
Hills features.
McCabe Buege of Rogers, Minn.,
is leading the Boys’ 16-18 Division after shooting two rounds in the
sixties. He is the first players to shot
back-to-back rounds in the sixties this summer on the PGA Junior Series.
He shot an impressive 4-under-par 67 in round one and a 2-under-par
69 in round two for a two round total of 6-under-par 136.
He has a one stroke lead over Jordan Niebrugge
of Mequon, Wis.,
who has a two round total of 5-under-par 137 and a four stroke lead of Charlie
Danielson of Osceola, Wis.,
who came in second place earlier this summer at the PGA Junior Series event in Nebraska.
With the golf course playing extremely soft, this division
has been able to attack hole locations and make a lot
of birdies. Expect tomorrow to be very
similar with the winner having to shot another round in the sixties if they
want to win. The average score in this
division for the two rounds is a little under 77, which is the lowest average
for the 2010 PGA Junior Series.
Allyssa Ferrell of Edgerton, Wis.,
is leading the Girls’ 16-18 Division after posting two even-par
71’s. She played consistent all day and
never gave up a big number. She is
headed to Michigan
State University
in the fall to play for the Spartans and has played on the PGA Junior Series
for much of her junior career.
She has a five stroke advantage over Shelby
Martinek of Tempe,
Ariz., and Susan Kirschenman of Huxley, Iowa.,
both who have a two round total of 5-over-par 147.
Casey Danielson, who is seeking her second
win this summer with the PGA Junior Series, is leading the Girls’ 13-15
Division. She is at 6-over-par
148 after two rounds. She won earlier
this summer in Nebraska.
In the Boys’ 13-15 Division, Christian Seaton of Mt. Carmel, Ill.,
is the leader heading into the final round.
He shot a 1-under-par 70 in round one in the morning and followed it up
with a 5-over-par 76 in the afternoon. His
two-round total is 4-over-par 146.
Seaton, who is a veteran out on the PGA Junior Series, won
an event last year in his home state of Illinois. He is seeking his first win in 2010 on the
Series. He has a four stroke lead over
Alex Stewart of Cuba City, Wis., who has a two-round total of
8-over-par 150.
Seaton had four birdies in his first round and said that
hitting a lot of fairways and greens in regulation was the key for shooting
1-under-par. He was unable to continue
that on his second round of the day but still maintains a good lead going into
the final round.
The Boys’ 16-18 winner as well as
the overall Girls winner will both receive an exemption into the 35th
Junior PGA Championship later this summer in Fort Wayne, Ind.,
at Sycamore Country Club.
