ArborLinks Provides Challenge on Day One For Juniors
Nebraska City, Neb. – Round one of the 2010 PGA
Junior Series event at ArborLinks in Nebraska City, Neb.,
found players battling a golf course that was extremely challenging for all
divisions. ArborLinks
only allowed two players to shoot under par for round one. The two day tournament features over 110
juniors from 12 different states.
In the Boys’ 16-18 Division, Dylan Healey of Franklin, Tenn.,
shot a 2-under-par 70 for a two stroke lead after round one.
“I hit the ball well today,” said Healey who is playing in
his third PGA Junior Series event of the summer. “I just wanted to have fun this week with my
Mom and Grandma who are here watching me and not worry about my score.”
Healey’s round consisted of four birdies and has to play
solid tomorrow if he wants to win considering there are 11 people within five
strokes of the lead.
In the Girls’ 16-18 Division, McKayla
Anderson of Fremont, Neb., shot an even-par 72 for a three stroke
lead.
“I did not play well in last year’s tournament,” commented Anderson. “However, I was hoping for a more consistent
two rounds this year and was able to do that today.”
Anderson’s
key is hitting greens in regulation and hopes that tomorrow she is able to continue
with the consistent play.
Cameron Bargell of North Platte, Neb.,
shot a 1-under-par 71 to be leading the Boys’ 13-15 Division.
“I was hitting my irons pretty close today and happened to
make some putts,” said Bargell who came in fifth
place last year at this event.
He hopes to continue his consistent play tomorrow and win
the division. He has a one stroke lead
over both Ryan Medhaug of Veblen, S.D.,
and Collin Hammer of Sioux Falls,
S.D.
All of the Girls and the Boys’ 13-15 Division will be teeing
off starting at 7:30 A.M. with the Boys’ 16-18 Division starting at 11:15
A.M.
And in the last division, Casey Danielson of Osceola, Wis., shot a
7-over-par 79 to lead the Girls’ 13-15 Division by one stroke over Caitlin
Farris of Oklahoma City, Okla.
The Boys’ 16-18 winner as well as
the overall Girls winner will both receive an exemption into the 35th
Junior PGA Championship later this summer in Fort Wayne, Ind.,
at Sycamore Hills Country Club.
Two day tournaments are always interesting on the final day
because so many players have the ability to go low and jump up the leaderboard. Look
for a lot of players to be attacking hole locations
tomorrow and trying to shoot under par.
