PGA Junior Series Delighted To Be At Oak
Tree Country Club
Edmond, Okla.
– The 2010 PGA Junior Series is excited to be back in Edmond, Okla.,
for the sixth stop of the 2010 summer.
This year, however, marks the first time that the Series will be playing
at Oak Tree Country Club.
The three day
54-hole event features over 100 juniors from 13 different states. Round one will commence on Tuesday July 6th.
The field is
broken down into four divisions, two girls and two boys, with ages ranging from
13-18. The Boys’ 16-18 and overall girl winner will each earn a spot in
the 35th Junior PGA Championship held later this summer at Sycamore
Hills Golf Club Aug. 2-5 in Fort Wayne,
Ind.
The premier
pairing during round one can be found in the Boys’ 16-18 Division. Taylor Moore of Edmond, Okla., Connor Black
of Katy, Texas, and Sean Romero of Texarkana, Ark., all have the ability to win
this week at Oak Tree and should be an
exciting pairing to watch.
The Girls’ 16-18
Division is also very strong with many PGA Junior Series veterans. Laura Kraft of Jamestown,
N.D., who won last year’s PGA Junior Series
event in Edmond, Okla.,
at Kicking Bird Golf Club hopes for another win in Oklahoma.
She will have to outlast players like Nadia Lutner
of Pittsburgh, Pa.,
and Shelby Martinek of Tempe, Ariz.,
both who have the ability to win this week.
And in the Boys’
13-15 Division, players will need to overtake favorite Sam Humphreys of Edmond, Okla.,
who won last year at Kicking Bird Golf Club.
The players will
be playing the East Course at Oak Tree Country Club. With bad weather forecasted for the entire
week, players will need to remain patient with the golf course and remain
focused in order to come out with a win this week.
This summer will
also feature points awarded to the top-10 finishers who are American
citizens at the nine PGA Junior Series events. These points help players
to qualify for the 7th Junior Ryder Cup held in late September in Gleneagles, Scotland.
The U.S. Junior Ryder Cup team will be comprised of six boys and six
girls who are American citizens and members of the high school graduating
class of 2011, or younger.
The PGA Junior
Series is one of the premier junior circuit in the
country hosting tournaments across the country for the entire summer. It features excellent junior golfers at top
golf facilities every week. The mission
of the PGA Junior Series is to promote the enjoyment of golf by junior golfers
through affordable and competitive playing opportunities in professionally
supervised events organized by the PGA of America and supported by PGA
Professionals. In its fifteenth year it
has conducted 154 events in 41 states.
