Fox Run Golf Club Ready For Hot and Humid PGA Junior Series Event
Eureka, Mo. –
Fox Run Golf Club in Eureka, Mo. is the host to the forth stop on the 2010 PGA
Junior Series schedule this summer. It
will be the first time that Fox Run Golf Club will play host to a PGA Junior
Series event.
The field
features 113 juniors from 13 different states and should provide some
exceptional golf during the three day tournament that starts on Tuesday June 22nd.
“This golf
course is going to be very challenging and fair for the juniors,” said Jeff
Field Head Golf Professional at Fox Run Golf Club. “Whoever wins this week will need to be
patient with both the golf course design and set up.”
The field is
broken down into four divisions, two girls and two boys, with ages ranging from
13-18. The Boys’ 16-18 and overall girl winner will each earn a spot in
the 35th Junior PGA Championship held later this summer at Sycamore
Hills Golf Club Aug. 2-5 in Fort Wayne, Ind. as well as a spot in the Junior World Championship
held in San Diego, Calif. in July.
Shelby
Phillips of Gilbert, Ariz., who was the 2009 PGA Junior Series
Player of the Year headlines the Girls’ 16-18
Division.
The Boys’
16-18 Division is wide open with no clear favorite. Danny Summers of Mission Hills, Kan., who won
the Boys’ 13-15 Division in Memphis,
Tenn., at the first PGA Junior
Series event of the 2010 summer, is also in the field trying to become a two
time winner.
This summer will
also feature points awarded to the top-10 finishers who are American
citizens at the nine PGA Junior Series events. These points help players
to qualify for the 7th Junior Ryder Cup held in late September in Gleneagles, Scotland.
The U.S. Junior Ryder Cup team will be comprised of six boys and six
girls who are American citizens and members of the high school graduating
class of 2011, or younger.
Fox Run Golf
Club is a challenging lay-out known in the area for its ability to be stretched
to over 8300 yards. Luckily for the
juniors this week, the course will be playing at its standard length but should
still provide players will demanding shot making and accuracy around the
greens.
The PGA Junior
Series is the premier junior circuit in the country hosting tournaments across
the country for the entire summer. It
features excellent junior golfers at top golf facilities every week. The mission of the PGA Junior Series is to
promote the enjoyment of golf by junior golfers through affordable and
competitive playing opportunities in professionally supervised events organized
by the PGA of America and supported by PGA Professionals. In its fifteenth year it has conducted 154
events in 41 states.
