All Winners Come From
Behind To Win At Fox Run
Eureka, Mo., - The final round of the 2010 PGA Junior Series
event at Fox Run Golf Club in Eureka, Mo., provided plenty of drama. In the Boys’ 16-18 Division, 54-holes were
not enough to decide a winner.
Steven Ihm of Peosta,
Iowa and Kyle Weldon of Des Peres, Mo., both shot a
1-under-par 71 for a two day total of 222 to force a hole-by-hole playoff. They both pared the first playoff hole and
Weldon won with a bogey on the second playoff hole.
Both players could not find the fairway on the second
playoff hole but Weldon was able to capitalize when Ihm
had to take a drop from the lateral water hazard.
With his victory here at Fox Run, Weldon earned an exemption
into the 35th Junior PGA Championship held Aug. 2-5 at Sycamore
Hills Country Club in Fort Wayne,
Ind.
Brandon Liu of Fernandina
Beach, Fla., shot a
solid 2-over-par 74 to come in third place with a three day total of 225.
Cassie Rushing of Marion,
Ill., came from behind to win the
Girls’ 16-18 Division by one stroke. She
shot a 2-over-par 74 for a three day total of 234. She surpassed Lauren English by one stroke to
win.
English shot a 77 for a three day total of 235 to take home
second place and Shelby Phillips of Gilbert,
Ariz., shot an 83 for a three day
total of 238 to take third place.
Rushing earned herself an exemption into the 35th
Junior PGA Championship.
In the Boys’ 13-15 Division, Danny Summers of Mission Hills,
Kan., did it again. For the second time
this summer on the PGA Junior Series he came from behind in the final day to
win.
He shot a 7-over-par 79 to come from six strokes down to
take home the title. His three day total
was 239. Alec Palen
of Rogersville, Mo.,
and Michael Sharp of Kendallville,
Ind., both tied for second place
with a three day total of 240.
“My game plan was to make a lot of pars for the day and I
knew going in that the golf course was going to be the winner,” said Summers speaking about how difficult the golf course
played.
“Since I won earlier this year, I think it helped take some
of the pressure off and allow me to play well.”
Jordan Chael of Overland Park, Kan.,
came from behind to win the Girls’ 13-15 Division. After being down seven strokes after day one,
she played two solid rounds to overtake Cassie Wang of Lenexa, Kan.
Chael shot an 81 in round three
for a three day total of 254. She won by
two strokes over Wang who shot an 85 on day three for a three day total of 256.
The PGA Junior Series heads west to Colorado
Springs, Colo., to the Air Force
Academy for the three day
tournament starting Tues. June 29th, 2010. That will be the fifth stop of nine stops for
the 2010 PGA Junior Series summer.
